Scoliosis in patients with neurofibromatosis

Neurofibromatosis is often accompanied by the development of scoliosis. Usual standard operations often lead to neurological complications. The treatment is hampered by the development of osteoporosis. Our sparing technique permits to successfully treat scoliosis, insofar as it does not injure the vertebrae, which is very important in case of neurofibromatosis.

The treatment in the community hospital had been unsuccessful. A surgery for scoliosis had been refused in large hospitals due to the patients neurofibromatosis. The surgery outcomes: implantation of the growing structure without damaging the spine

Six months and 1.5 years after the surgery. The cosmetic result is good, and the patients kyphosis is within the normal range. The operation should have been performed much earlier, without allowing for the severe level of kyphoscoliosis to develop.
